While our coaching aligns with the highest national standards, we deliver our training through our own unique framework: The Cold Water Method. This approach blends sports science with practical physiology, looking at exactly how the body adapts to the open water environment. By understanding how to manage the physical response to colder water, we can focus on what matters most: refining your stroke mechanics, building sustainable endurance, and safely pacing yourself across longer distances.

Whether you are stepping into a lake for the first time or fine-tuning your performance for an ultra-marathon swim, our structured pathways are designed to elevate your capability, confidence, and performance.

Introduction to Open Water

The Foundational Pathway

Your gateway to structured open water swimming.

Transitioning from the pool to natural water requires a shift in both mindset and technique. This session serves as our foundational group coaching experience, offering a structured, calm, and supportive environment designed to ease you into the elements.

Following curated session plans, we guide you through the core principles of The Cold Water Method. You will learn the fundamentals of safe cold-water acclimatisation, efficient stroke mechanics, sighting, and controlled buoy turns. We respect every swimmer's journey and progression is entirely at your own pace as you build stamina and confidence.

This pathway is perfect for triathletes looking to improve their swim leg, pool swimmers making the transition to natural water, or open water swimmers wanting a relaxed environment to improve distance efficiency or technique. To join, you should have the basic ability to swim 100 meters continuously in a pool or open water.

Advanced Open Water Progression

Structured training for confident swimmers looking to build stamina and skill.

Designed for capable swimmers ready to move beyond casual laps, this structured session focuses on building endurance, hitting new distance milestones, and mastering the natural elements.

Using The Cold Water Method, we go beyond the basics to refine your stroke efficiency and pacing. You will learn the skills needed to navigate group dynamics comfortably, covering advanced sighting, precision drafting, and pack swimming. To help you track your growth, we incorporate distance tracking and time-keeping so you can clearly understand your performance. Whether you are aiming for a personal milestone, an event, or simply a stronger swim fitness routine, these session plans provide the blueprint to get you there.

This group is tailor-made for long-distance and marathon swimmers, triathletes, and any fitness-minded swimmer looking for a structured training environment. To join, you should have the foundational capability to comfortably swim 750 meters of continuous freestyle in an open water environment.

The Tailored Pathway

Personalised coaching designed exclusively around your goals.

Private 1:1 sessions offer a direct and focused route to swimming improvement, providing completely personalised coaching tailored to your exact needs. By isolating your individual goals, we can apply the principles of The Cold Water Method with absolute precision to help you progress quickly and confidently.

These sessions can cover any facet of swimming, from high-level stroke analysis and pacing work to specialized guidance for those overcoming aquaphobia or managing water anxiety. We also focus heavily on the foundational safety of cold-water immersion, ensuring you learn the proper techniques to enter natural water environments safely. Your coach adapts completely to you, providing expert instruction from either in the water or from the lakeside depending on your comfort level.

This premium pathway is suitable for all abilities, welcoming everyone from nervous swimmers building basic water confidence to experienced athletes looking for micro-adjustments to their technique. To get the most out of this session, you should have a basic understanding of at least one swimming stroke and the ability to swim a minimum of 25 meters.

BOOK SESSION

All new swimmers pay a one-time £10 registration fee and receive a welcome package that includes a Cold Water Method Pink swimming cap to wear during sessions.

All swimmers that reach 20hours swim time are awarded the Cold Water Method Yellow swimming cap and receive 10% off all future sessions.

All Swimmers that reach 100hours swim time are awarded the Cold Water Method Green swimming cap and receive a further 15% off all future sessions.

Casual Swimming

Independent access to the lake

For those who do not require structured coaching, casual swimming allows you to integrate the powerful routine of open water into your daily life. These independent sessions give you the freedom to connect with the water, clear your mind, and swim entirely at your own pace before the rest of the world wakes up.

Held during the tranquil early morning hours, the water is managed by our venue partners, Rock and River Outdoor Pursuits, from whom we proudly lease the lake. It is the perfect space to practice your skills independently, build raw endurance, or simply enjoy the mental clarity that natural water provides.

This access is ideal for confident, self-sufficient open water swimmers looking for unstructured training, event practice, or purely recreational swimming.
