Open Water Swimming Coaching 

Structured open water coaching for swimmers looking to build confidence, improve technique, and gain experience in outdoor water.

Suitable for both beginners and experienced swimmers, our sessions focus on safety, progression, and practical open water skills in a supportive group environment.

Our coaching sessions are based at Rock and River Outdoor Pursuits in Lancashire, using a purpose-built open water lake that combines the authenticity of outdoor swimming with a structured and controlled environment ideal for safe progression and skill development.

All new members pay a one-time £10 sign-up fee and receive a welcome package that includes a Cold Water Method pink swimming cap to wear during sessions.

Open Water Swimming Coaching

Structured group coaching for confident open water swimmers.

These sessions are designed for swimmers ready to develop their open water ability beyond the basics. Whether your goal is endurance, technical improvement, racing, or simply becoming stronger and more capable in open water, this is where real progression begins.

Sessions focus on:

  • Advanced stroke refinement

  • Sighting and navigation

  • Buoy turns and positioning

  • Endurance development

  • Pacing and swim efficiency

  • Pack swimming and drafting

  • Open water awareness and decision making

Training is progressive, challenging, and supportive — helping swimmers build the confidence and capability to swim independently, train consistently, and prepare for events or competition if desired.

Suitable for swimmers comfortable swimming longer continuous distances in open water.

Introduction to Open Water

Your first step into open water swimming.

These small-group sessions are designed for swimmers moving from the pool into lakes, rivers, and natural water environments. We focus on building confidence, safety awareness, cold water adaptation, and strong swimming foundations in a calm and supportive setting.

Sessions include:

  • Open water safety skills

  • Cold water adaptation

  • Stroke technique and efficiency

  • Breathing and relaxation

  • Confidence in natural water

  • Basic sighting and awareness

Our coaches remain closely involved throughout, allowing for hands-on support and guidance both in and out of the water.

1:1 Coaching

The fastest and most effective way to improve your swimming.

Our private coaching sessions are fully tailored to you — whether you’re a complete beginner building confidence in open water, refining technique for endurance swimming, or preparing for triathlon and competition.

Sessions include personalised stroke analysis, technical drills, pacing work, open water skills, and real-time feedback from experienced coaches. Coaches can work both in and out of the water depending on your goals and comfort level.

Cold Water Immersion Coaching - Cold Water Therapy

Learn to enter cold water safely, calmly, and with control.

These sessions focus on the principles of cold water immersion, breath control, nervous system regulation, and safe exposure practices. Whether your goal is resilience, mental clarity, recovery, or simply building confidence in cold water, sessions are structured to help you adapt progressively and safely.

Sessions may include:

  • Gradual cold water immersion

  • Breathwork and nervous system control

  • Mindfulness and relaxation techniques

  • Cold adaptation education

  • Safe entry and exit procedures

  • Mental resilience training

This is not about endurance or “toughness.”
It’s about learning to remain calm, present, and in control within the cold.

Our partners at Rock and River Outdoor Pursuits offer dedicated swimming memberships designed for swimmers who are confident in open water and ready to swim more independently.

Held during dedicated morning swim sessions, membership gives swimmers the opportunity to start the day in the water — training, resetting, and building consistency before the rest of the world fully wakes.

Whether you are following a structured training plan, preparing for events, or simply looking for the calm and clarity that comes with regular time in the water, membership gives you the freedom to swim consistently in a safe and purpose-built environment.
